Contact Improvisation - Body Language and Active Listening

Saturday 12 July 2025

Intensive movement and dance workshop where we will learn to better read proprioceptive signals through which the body communicates with the mind and with itself. We will show strategies for how to deepen our kinesthetic and other sensory perception during movement itself. We will actively read and interpret our physical sensations and allow them to influence or motivate our next movement, to change our path and evoke feelings that are second to none. Feelings that are a clear signal that right now this movement, this touch, this internal tension and this path is exactly what we need, what gives us energy, lightness, strength and more possibilities and multiplies our desire to continue further.

A workshop where we are constantly in dialogue with our body first through our own movement and dance, in which we revive familiar and forgotten areas of the body. We will look at how sensations enable us to develop dialogue with our surroundings, use gravity, ground support and inertial forces. Then we will improvise in contact with a partner and focus on how to prioritize our own proprioception so that we don’t overload ourselves and can effectively use the forces, paths and shapes we come into contact with. Finally, we will observe how proprioception guides us in partner manipulation, massage, how we open pathways for another body to release stiff areas or activate weak ones through simply mediating various sensations.

Solo dance, contact improvisation and dynamic massage will alternate and interweave in various sequences and allow us to find trust in our own physical impulses and cultivate dialogue between mind and body.

A workshop where you will find a new source of movement and its fresh new motivation. It is intended for everyone seeking connection with their own body, advanced contact improvisation dancers who want to find a universal tool for developing their skills and self-learning. New curious participants and beginners who long to start with a principle that opens the body and inherently provides a solid foundation for all other skills will also be welcome.

Zita Pavlištová

She teaches contact improvisation, dance and movement work. She shares the art of movement that evokes feelings of strength, agility and enchantment. With her you discover that physical activity brings a lot of energy when the mind is properly engaged and imagination and physical perception are developed. Her classes combine joy of movement, play and fantasy, develop sensitivity of the senses and their use for light, effortless movement.

Movement and physical contact is for her not only a way to express herself but primarily how to communicate with others. To become perceptive and able to read intentions, decide and change your decisions every minute, not to be afraid of mistakes. Working with her you overcome boundaries and irrepressibly learn, discover new perspectives on the body, on yourself and on the world. She challenges you to new things and seeks ways to develop your abilities while feeling joy, pleasure and desire to search further.

She is one of the few contact improvisation teachers in the Czech Republic. She works in Prague where she founded and leads Druna: a space for the development of artistic and therapeutic disciplines closely connected with the body. She also leads workshops in Brno, Spain, Poland, Germany, and the Philippines.

The workshop is intensive: Saturday 9:00 – 16:00, and is open to anyone regardless of age or prior movement experience.
