Professional Training of Feldenkrais Method

in years 2024 – 2028

first seminar 16 – 27 October 2024

The training brings a deep understanding of the principles of the Feldenkrais Method, which fascinate experts and all those who want to transform their body and return it to its ideal functioning. It emphasizes the understanding and mastery of Dr. Feldenkrais‘ (the creator of the method) key practices and ways of thinking so that students can apply them not only in their future practice, but anytime and anywhere. Under the guidance of some of the world’s most renowned lecturers, you will go through a learning process full of fundamental discoveries and brilliantly presented theory.

Understanding the process of organic learning, on which Feldenkrais‘ method is based, cannot be achieved simply by imparting knowledge. Personal experience forms an essential part of the training. Each student undergoes his own active transformation, his own intense investigation, and is invited to contribute his observations to the enrichment of the whole and to the common growth.

Students undergo a variety of masterfully guided Awareness Through Movement® exercises as well as individual Functional Integration® sessions during their training. At their own pace, they absorb the process of their transformation, learn a new way of thinking, become familiar with the principles underlying the method, observe and learn to analyze the various practices, and discover the strategies and form of the lessons. They then train themselves in conducting ATM group exercises and individual FI lessons.

About the Method

Feldenkrais Method is a new approach to understanding oneself. It is a natural learning process. Its effectiveness lies in its ability to make the processes of the nervous system change and thus improve their functioning. The Feldenkrais Method is recognized worldwide for its remarkable ability to improve upright posture, flexibility and coordination. It uses organic learning, movement and feeling to free us from habitual patterns, movement stereotypes, allowing new patterns – physical and mental – to emerge and develop naturally.

The effectiveness of the Feldenkrais Method and its high success rate is used worldwide in the artistic field (professional dancers, musicians and actors), in top sports and, last but not least, in the treatment of various types of movement limitations, chronic tension and pain and developmental disorders.

What the Training Will Bring You

The International Professional Training of the Feldenkrais® Method Prague is accredited by the EuroTAB and its successful completion will give you the right to practice the Feldenkrais Method in all countries of the world. However, international certification is not the only goal of this training.

During the training, you will go through your own process of transforming your movement and thought patterns, finding greater freedom and liberty in your body, movement and thought. You will deepen and improve your perception of movement and be able to use it to reorganize your habits, finding your own path to harmonious and efficient movement.

You will understand and master the principles on which the Feldenkrais teaching is based. You will be prepared to work as a Feldenkrais Method practitioner and called to pass on its message through teaching ATM group exercises and individual FI lessons.

Your process will be influenced by remarkable personalities of eminent teachers whose qualities you will be able to observe and absorb repeatedly. You will have teachers who accompany you with interest, who recognize your strengths and talents as well as your obstacles and difficulties, and who enthusiastically support you in the process of discovering, transforming and learning about yourself. Teachers who cheer you on and are delighted when you recognize and grasp what they offer, apply their insights, follow up on their experiences, validate them and develop them creatively.

Study plan

This Feldenkrais Method training is a comprehensive training program that can only be enrolled in as a whole. The main part of the training takes place in person in Prague, with continuity between segments maintained by shorter online meetings. Live segments most often consist of two five-day parts interspersed with a two-day break. Each segment is led by one of the trainers or education directors.

Orientation Time: The live segments will run during 10:00-17:00 with a lunch break. Most online sessions take place in the evening.

Teaching Staff

The four-year study of the Feldenkrais Method opens up a rare opportunity to develop in depth, to learn and to gain experience from the most interesting personalities of the Feldenkrais Method. A team of teachers from all over the world has been assembled by the famous American teacher Arlyn Zones, who herself studied directly with the founder of the method, Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais. We are delighted that after a long period of time when Arlyn has only devoted herself to her advanced projects, she will once again lead the foundation training to spread the message of the method and pass on the best available experience to the new generation of Feldenkrais teachers. For this mission, she has invited leading experts who have gone deep into the method, uncovering its enormous potential in their practice. Personalities who have something to pass on, are doing it with love, infectious passion and an ease worthy of Feldenkrais.

Arlyn Zones (USA)

education director

Arlyn has been practicing Feldenkrais Method since 1977 and attended the last American training with Dr. Moshé Feldenkrais which he conducted in 1983. She loves creative atmosphere in her trainings and you can best appreciate her qualities when you have personal contact with her. She excels in her ability to impart valuable verbal skills when conducting ATM lessons, as well as the non-verbal qualities of touch in FI. Coming from an artistic background herself, she has the ability to enthuse about the potential for self-improvement for anyone who desires to push the boundaries of what is „possible“.

She has been active and successful in her practice in every way. Her experience includes nearly 40 years of private practice for adults, children and infants with a variety of physical and neurological difficulties seeking help and improvement. She has brought the Feldenkrais Method to many special schools, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, physical therapy clinics, universities and drama schools. She also conducts public workshops and online classes, Feldenkrais Method workshops for health professionals, performers and the general public. She also offers advanced workshops for Feldenkrais Method trainees and is a highly sought after mentor for Feldenkrais Method trainees and assistant trainers. She has given numerous presentations at Guild conferences and recently designed and initiated a special educational research project for the North American Training Accreditation Board.

Arlyn became a Feldenkrais Method Trainer in 1994 and has since taught at over a hundred trainings around the world, many of which she has led as education director. She has taught in many trainings in Europe, UK, Canada, all major cities in Australia, China, Japan, North and South America. She has also conducted her own training programs primarily in Holland, the United States and Canada.

Anna Maria Caponecchi M.A. (Italy)

education director

As a teacher, she is known for her friendly and open approach. She came to the Feldenkrais method through her work in theatre, her interest in art, movement and learning processes. The Feldenkrais Method offered her the bridge between science and creativity that she needed to engage with the human being in all its complexity.

In her active private practice: working with adults, infants, and children with various disabilities, she accumulated a wide range of experience. In addition to seminars on the Feldenkrais Method in Europe, Japan, South America, Russia and China, she has carried out a number of projects with professionals in the fields of art, psychology, paediatric neuropsychiatry, as well as seminars specifically designed for midwives and on the pelvic floor.

Her warm, precise and creative teaching style attracts many students to her. She herself organized 5 training programs in the Feldenkrais Method in Rome, where she was also a trainer. She is currently the education director of the training programs Rome 9, China 4 and will start training China 7 soon.

Anastasi Siotas (Australia / USA)

trainer

Feldenkrais Method teacher with extensive expertise in anatomy and kinesiology resulting from many years of research and teaching. Parallel to his practice, he has continually expanded his understanding of the human musculoskeletal system by studying several other remarkable approaches. His experiences bring new understandings and new possibilities for discovery to the Feldenkrais Method. His philosophy understands the Feldenkrais Method as an excellent practical tool for self-improvement and human development in all directions.

Anastasi is of Greek origin, was born in Australia and spent the first part of his life there. His parents encouraged a broad view of the world and his love of the arts and sciences. Anastasi had a career as a biological systems researcher, which he followed with a career in dance, choreography and directing.

After suffering an injury, his research into pain management led him to the Feldenkrais Method and its study became the most important aspect of Anastasi’s life and his third career. This soon took him to New York City, where he taught as an assistant trainer in Feldenkrais Method training programs. At the same time, he deepened his knowledge of movement anatomy at the Laban/Bartenieff Institute where he has been teaching kinesthetic anatomy for the past 15 years. He became a student and later collaborator of the world-renowned choreographer, anatomist and teacher extraordinaire Irene Dowd, and eventually combined his scientific, artistic and neurobiological interests in the revolutionary biotensegrity model, which changed the interpretation of the balance of compression and tension forces in living systems and which Anastasi studied with its founder, Dr. Stephen Levine.

Anastasi’s approach to the Feldenkrais method has received international recognition. As an assistant trainer and trainer he has taught in training programs in the USA, Canada, Australia, China, Japan, the Netherlands, Austria and Greece. He has taught in 8 training programs in New York and regularly conducts workshops in Crete and other locations.

Elizabeth Beringer (USA)

trainer

She is one of the leading teachers of Feldenkrais Method and earned a privileged place among trainers. Her popularity continues to grow, thanks to the excellent reputation of her experience and her lively and clear way of teaching. Between 1976 and 1983 she studied directly with the founder of the method, Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais, in both the USA and Israel, and since then she has been practicing and developing Feldenkrais Method for nearly 40 years. She has contributed greatly to its worldwide development into a respected and sought after profession. She has published the Feldenkrais magazine, developed training programs and materials, taught in advanced Feldenkrais Method seminars around the world, and also conducted post-graduate seminars for physical and occupational therapists in Australia and the USA.

Elizabeth is known for her ability to apply the method in dynamic situations. Her understanding of the Feldenkrais Method has been influenced throughout by her experience in the practice of Aikido martial arts, which focuses on neutralizing aggression by redirecting the opponent’s force. Elizabeth has been his instructor for many years and is a 6th dan holder. In addition, she has studied many other somatic disciplines. More recently she has been studying cognitive science and she already incorporates current advances in cognitive science into her teaching of the Feldenkrais approach.

In her private practice in California, Elizabeth works with a diverse clientele including people with severe physical limitations, seniors, musicians, children, and people with chronic pain. She has worked extensively with athletes, martial artists and dancers. As education director, she leads Feldenkrais Method training programs in Milan, Italy, Biel, Switzerland, and San Diego, California. She also travels extensively as a trainer to many parts of the USA, Europe and Australia to teach in both professional and advanced training programs.

Martin Mosimann (Switzerland)

trainer

One of the most experienced Swiss trainers of the Feldenkrais Method. Originally a physiotherapist, he soon discovered the potential of the Feldenkrais Method, studied it and started his own successful private practice where he treats a wide range of people: children and young people, disabled and elderly people, musicians and athletes.

In doing so, he himself organised three professional Feldenkrais Method trainings in Biel. Since 2021 he has been a Feldenkrais Method Trainer. He teaches in international training programs and leads courses for advanced trainees in Switzerland, England, Austria, France and the USA. Together with Elizabeth Beringer he is education director of Feldenkrais Method trainings in Biel, Switzerland and Innsbruck, Austria. He also became one of the directors of the Feldenkrais Center of Biel.

Scott Clark (Great Britain / USA)

trainer

An inspiring teacher of the Feldenkrais Method, in whose life movement has a fundamental place. It is for him a means of self-discovery and a way of communicating with others. Right after his studies in mathematics in New Mexico, he studied dance as an art form, but soon realized that the real art lies in how we live our daily lives. He recognized how hard it is to allow ordinary things to be even comfortable and joyful, let alone beautiful, growing, or transcendent.

Fortunately, the dance community has been a crossroads of many „alternative“ approaches of which Scott has studied the Alexander Method, Rolfing, Laban, and several other methods. But when he encountered the Feldenkrais Method 40 years ago, it became the cornerstone that suddenly made everything else make sense. He eagerly signed up for his first British training and successfully began to incorporate the approach and thinking of the Feldenkrais Method into his dance practice, teaching and training with his dance group, Siobhan Davies Dance Company.

Soon after, he expanded his reach to people of all ages and types of experience. He works with dancers and musicians on the one hand, people with severe pain or disability on the other, but most importantly, ordinary people who want to live and grow fully. He works with them in one-to-one FI classes and runs regular public ATM classes in London. He is a popular mentor and supervisor of trainees and as a Feldenkrais Method Trainer teaches in professional training programmes in the UK, Europe and the US. He is also now education director of the London Training.
